Voices

The word Advocate has its origins in Medieval Latin meaning “summon, call to one’s aid.” Today we know that a fundamental part of advocacy is to lend support to someone’s voice, to ensure that a voice is heard and someone’s wishes and needs are honored and respected. The poem written by Naomi Littlebear illustrates the power and long life of voice. Our voice is knit to our spirit. Project Woman used this poem on the cover of its Advocacy Program brochure over 30 years ago. As we approach our 45th anniversary, Project Woman lifts up the voices of survivors from the past, present and future. It is in these voices we hear the sound of pain, suffering, fear, and hope, joy, and courage. Join us to honor these voices as we kick off our 45th year and celebrate our Sapphire Anniversary!
